About Ab Tech · ኤቢ ቴክ

Independent software studio and technology publication · Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Ab Tech is an Ethiopian technology brand founded and run by Abraham Alemye, a self-taught software developer and content creator based in Addis Ababa. It began as a personal YouTube channel explaining technology and trading concepts in Amharic, and grew into a small independent studio that builds software for the Ethiopian market and writes about how it is done.

Why this site exists

Most of the software and tutorials people here find online assume foreign payment systems, fast connections and hosting that is cheap in dollars. Real projects in Ethiopia look different: prices in Birr, TeleBirr and CBE Birr as the payment rails people trust, shared cPanel hosting without a Node.js server, and mid-range Android phones on variable networks. This site publishes what we learn while building within those constraints, so other developers and site owners do not have to learn it the slow way.

What we do

• Publish practical guides on web development, hosting, security, performance, payments and mobile apps. See the article library.
• Build Android apps in Kotlin with Firebase backends, published on Google Play.
• Build websites and admin systems, from static Next.js exports for cPanel hosting to PHP/MySQL applications with dashboards that non-technical staff can use.
• Create educational content in Amharic and English on YouTube, TikTok and Telegram.

Our products and projects

• SiraHub — an Android job marketplace for Ethiopian employers and job seekers, available on Google Play.
• Client websites and systems — sites and admin tools built for churches, organisations and small businesses, each shaped around how that client works.
• Apps in development — an e-commerce marketplace (HagiShop) and a digital Equb savings app are in development and not yet released.

How we write

Articles are written for Ab Tech and based on work we have done or tested. We state the limits of a recommendation, show examples and update articles when details change. Read the full Editorial Policy.

Trading and finance content

Some of our video content discusses trading tools and markets. It is educational only and is not financial advice. Trading carries a risk of loss; do your own research and consider speaking to a licensed adviser.
